13 Travel Destinations in Lombok

For those of you who are planning to have a vacation in Lombok Island but still confused about where to go, here are some destinations that you can visit:

1. Mount Rinjani

This mountain is very famous! Undoubtedly Mount Rinjani is one of the most beautiful mountain in Indonesia and an icon of Lombok Island. Mount Rinjani has an altitude of 3726 meters above sea level and is the second highest volcano mountain in Indonesia. It’s natural scenery is truly enchanting and mesmerizing. From it’s peak we can see clearly the boundaries of the mainland of Lombok island, 3 Gilis (3 famous islands in Lombok), and Mount Agung in Bali. In addition, It’s large Savanna Sembalun, Segara Anak Lake with Mount Barujari in the middle, Senaru and several waterfalls will make us amazed.

2. Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, Gili Air (Trawangan, Meno & Air Island)

When you visit Lombok island, don’t forget to put these three islands in your destination list. These three islands are located in North Lombok and is often called The 3 Gilis. To get to The 3 Gilis you have to cross the sea from Bangsal Port for about an hour. Bangsal Port is a port that is located approximately 1 - 1,5 hours drive from Mataram. The distance from Gili Trawangan to Gili Meno and from Gili Meno to Gili Air is not too far, only takes about 15-20 minute trip across the sea by boat. So if you come to Gili Trawangan for example, don’t forget to also visit Gili Meno and Gili Air. There are many activities that you can do on those three islands, such as snorkeling, diving and enjoying the beach.

3. Gili Nanggu, Gili Tangkong, Gili Sudak dan Gili Kedis (The 4 Gilis)

Gili Nanggu, Gili Tangkong, Gili Sudak and Gili Kedis are four islands which are adjacent to each other. They are located in West Lombok. The islands can be reached from Lembar Harbour or from Tawun Pier, West Sekotong. Here, we can find boat rental services to surround the four islands. As well as the 3 Gilis, The 4 Gilis also offers beautiful beaches and underwater world. Although these islands are not as famous as 3 Gilis, but their beauty is no doubt.

4. Tanjung Aan Beach

If you only have limited time in Lombok, then this beach is worthy of being the top priority of your destination! It’s green sea water really soothing eye. When I was here as if I was far away inanother world”. View of the hills surrounding the beach make it more beautiful. Here you can climb to the top of the hills to watch the exotic sea view.

5. Kuta Beach

For those of you who have been to Bali before, you must be familiar with Kuta Beach. Lombok also has Kuta Beach! This beach is not too far from Tanjung Aan Beach. If you depart from Mataram, through Praya-Kuta Road, about 30 minutes before Tanjung Aan you will pass this beach. As well as Tanjung Aan, this beach also has green seawater.

6. Cemara Beach

The beach is probably not known by many people and is still deserted of visitors. But it’s panorama is no less beautiful than Kuta Beach or Tanjung Aan Beach. It’s silence, white sand and green colored seawater will make us don’t believe that this beach is so deserted of visitors. The coastline is long, with some coastal cliffs.

7. Kaliantan Beach

Kaliantan Beach is adjacent to Cemara Beach and located in East Lombok. From Cemara Beach it takes about 15 minutes to the beach by car. Here we can find seaweed cultivation. Try to climb up the hills which are scattered around the beach and enjoy a fabulous view of the sea!

8. Surga Beach

Lombok has many hidden and deserted beaches that have not been exposed. This beach is one of them. Surga Beach or the local community also call it “The Ocean Heaven” is a beach which is located in East Lombok, in the Jerowaru District. “Surga” means paradise. To reach this beach we have to pass through the road which is not smooth and rocky. There are many large rocks and charming high cliffs on this beach.

9. Senggigi Beach

Senggigi beach is located near from Mataram, about 10 KM. The beach is also very long, but many established cottages and hotels along the coastline. So not all of them can be accessed by public. Senggigi Beach is visited both by local residents who want to spend holidays with their families and tourists from outside Lombok. Here there are many merchant and stalls selling food and handicrafts. At Senggigi beach you can also do snorkeling activities.

10. Malimbu Hill

Malimbu Hill is the name of a place which is located approximately one hour drive from Senggigi Beach towards North of Lombok using motorcycle. Malimbu Hill often used as a place to enjoy sunset. From here you can enjoy the beautiful view of the sea. If you want to go here, try using motorcycle! And feel the joy of smooth road through the countryside and green trees on the sides of the road.

11. Sade Village

Sade Village is one of the Sasak Village. Sasak are indigenous people of Lombok. The village is located about 30 KM from Mataram or approximately less than 1.5 hours using motorcycle. It is easy to be accessed as it is located at roadside of Praya-Kuta Road. If you head to Kuta Beach from Mataram, then you will pass through this village, about 30 minutes before arriving at Kuta Beach. Here you can see the variety of traditions and Sasak life. Sade is the village of Sasak that is most frequently visited by tourists. In addition to Sade village there are still some other Sasak Village in Lombok such as Bayan village near the foot of Mount Rinjani in North Lombok. Bayan Village is the most ancient Sasak Village.

12. Sendang Gile Waterfall

Sendang Gile Waterfall is located at Bayan District, North Lombok Regency, on the foot of Mount Rinjani. If you climb Mount Rinjani and down through Senaru, then you can head to this waterfall using motorcycle or other transport. To go to this waterfall we have to walk through hundreds of stairs from the ticket gate.

13. Tiu Kelep Waterfall

Tiu Kelep Waterfall is located not far from Sendang Gile Waterfall. From Sendang Gile Waterfall, you need to continue walking through the green forest to get to this waterfall.
